The Cambridge Ministry (previously the Durham Ministry) was created on 6 January 2025 when William Somerset, The Earl of Durham was invited to form a government in the name of George VII. This follows the results of the January 2025 General Election which resulted in a hung Parliament. The Leader of Unionist-Heron Parliamentary Coalition, August Carew, The Baron Calder, failed to return to the House of Commons by a single vote and promptly resigned. Lord Durham was swiftly elected as Coalition Leader and then entered talks with the Leader of the British Workers' Party, Noa de Carteret. After several hours, an agreement was struck and Durham received the confidence of the House of Commons. Following the death of his father, Prince Henry, 1st Duke of Cambridge, he inherited the title of the Duke of Cambridge and the ministry therefore became known as the Cambridge Ministry.
