Miann Caledon Amyntas Somerset, The Earl of Lothian (joined 14 August 2022) is a British statesman, educator, former military officer and senior member of the British Royal Family. As husband of Charles III, he is the current Prince Consort. Most well known for his long and distinguished public service in the political scene, he was a Member of Parliament for the constituencies of Edinburgh West and Edinburgh, and in total he served a total of 7 sessions as an MP. He was most notably a member and former Chief Whip of the British Royalist Party, and a former member of the British Constitutionalist Party. The Duke of Edinburgh founded the British Liberal Party in January 2024. He formerly served in a variety of Government positions, such as Secretary of State for the Home Office, Chancellor of the Exchequer, Chief Secretary to the Treasury, and Speaker of the House of Commons (he served as such during the 21st Session). He was also formerly the Principal Private Secretary to Queen Elizabeth III.
Upon first joining the region Miann, known as Miann Bowes-Lyon, quickly joined the political ranks and served three terms as an MP under the British Royalist Party, serving as the 26th Speaker of the House of Commons during the 21st Session of Parliament. During this time he also served in the Royal Household, most notably as the Private Secretary to then Princess of Wales. Upon her accession to the throne as Elizabeth III, Miann would continue in the role as Private Secretary to the Sovereign up until his departure on the 26 February 2023.
Towards the end of May, Miann returned and soon joined the Howard-Campbell family, becoming the eldest son of his former employer, Elizabeth Howard-Campbell. He served in her Cabinet as Secretary of State for the Home Office and served in Parliament with the British Constitutionalist Party. For much of his time in the region he had been referred to by his only peerage, as the Earl of Lothian, but upon the passing of his mother he inherited the Duchy of Edinburgh and its associated subsidiary titles. He served in the cabinet of William Somerset, 2nd Viscount Douglas, first as Downing Street Chief of Staff and then as Home Secretary once again, before retiring in preparation for his husbands accession to the throne on 1 March 2024.
The Duke officially resides at the residences of the Royal House of Somerset, most notably having extensive apartments at Buckingham Palace and Kensington Palace. He owns the former seat of Clan Colville, Dunrobin Castle in Scotland and the Grey family Seat of Grey House in Byfleet. He also owns a large Canadian retreat, Château Richelieu, as a summer retreat.
Known officially as His Royal Highness Prince Miann, Duke of Edinburgh, he is the husband of King Charles III since October 2022. They have two sons, Tobias, Prince Royal and William Somerset, 2nd Viscount Douglas. He is the son of Kathrine Grey, 1st Countess of Argyll. He is the older brother of Josephine Carew-Grey, Baroness Knightstone and younger brother of Alistair S.R. Grey, 1st Baron Helmsdale. He is an Uncle to Owain Carew-Grey and August Carew-Grey, 1st Baron Calder (the two sons of Josephine and Miann's brother-in-law, Thomas Carew, Baron Knightstone), and Sirch Somerset, Marquess of Lorne, the son of the King's brother, Prince Victor, Duke of York.
Early Career: 14 August 2022 to 26 February 2023
Miann, in his first stint in the Empire, was categorised by an immense desire to serve the public of the Empire of Great Britain through service in HM's Government and the House of Commons. He served continuously from 11 September 2022 till his departure from the Empire on 26 February 2023. He also was a dedicated servant of the crown, being a prominent part of the Royal Household of Queen Elizabeth III. He served the Crown as King of Arms, both as Clarenceux and later as Lord Lyon, as well as Principal Private Secretary to the Princess of Wales. He maintained this position post the accession of Queen Elizabeth III. He served the people in the House of Commons as an MP for Edinburgh and Edinburgh West for a cumulative run in the Commons for over 169 days.
