The Home Office is a ministerial department of HM Government. It is responsible for recruitment, retention, British citizenship, and other domestic affairs priorities as set by the Prime Minister of Great Britain. As such, the department is responsible for welcoming newcomers to the region and working to provide them opportunities when they join. The Ministry of Culture has often been placed under its purview when the Culture, Media, and Sport Office is not in use.

The Minister of the Crown responsible for the department is the Secretary of State for the Home Office, a post considered one of the Great Offices of State (no to be confused with the Great Officers of State). The Home Office is also sometimes assisted by the Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for the Home Office, its most senior civil servant. The expenditure, administration, and policy of the Home Office are scrutinised by the Home and Public Administration Committee of the House of Commons.
