The Minister of State for the Home Office, sometimes referred to as the Deputy Home Secretary, is a junior ministerial position held within the Home Office (and as a result, HM Government), usually responsible for administrative tasks and updates within the extensive remit of the Home Office. They are appointed by the Sovereign on the advice of the Prime Minister and the Secretary of State for the Home Office. Personnel in this position serve as an effective understudy to the Home Secretary, usually as a precursor to being appointed to more senior positions in Government. While the specific tasks undertaken by this Minister of State vary from administration to administration (and the specifics of the name), they are seen as reliable and youthful successors to established Home Secretaries.
