Martynas Wright (joined January 13, 2021) was a British politician who served as the Member of Parliament for Wigram and twice served as the Secretary of State for the Home Office. He was elected on behalf of the British Workers' Party. Later during his political career, he was a member of both the Independent Group and the Democratic Unionist Party, but was never elected to the House of Commons on behalf of those parties. While formerly a Member of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire, Wright's honour was revoked during his departure scandal.

Personal Life

Family

Noble House of Wright

Martynas Wright was adopted into the Noble House of Wright by Andrew Wright, the 1st Viscount Islington. He was the nephew of Charles Wright, The Baron Huntingdon, with whom he maintained a somewhat distant relationship. A portrait of Wright is featured in the Gallery of Harewood House, the family seat of the Noble House of Wright.

Religion

Wright was a registered member of the Roman Catholic Church, a source of tension with his father, who, as Patriarch of the Noble House of Wright, adhered to the Anglican Catholic faith.

Military Career

Royal Navy

Wright served in the Royal Navy as an Able Rating but was never promoted during his military service.

Political Career

Member of Parliament

Wright first entered the political arena in January 2021 when he joined the British Workers' Party. However, he quickly resigned his membership and registered as a member of the Independent Group on May 4, 2021. On October 8, 2021, he rejoined the British Workers' Party, the party once represented by his grandfather, Richard Wright. He was elected to the House of Commons for the first time during the 20th Session of Parliament, representing the constituency of Wigram for the British Workers' Party. In October 2022, he became a member of the Democratic Unionist Party and briefly led the party, though he was never re-elected to the House of Commons.

Secretary of State for the Home Office

Wright served twice as Secretary of State for the Home Office. His first tenure as Home Secretary was during the Manitoba Premiership, followed by a second term in the same role during the J. Sherwood Premiership. At the conclusion of the J. Sherwood Premiership, Wright was invested as a Member of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire by King William V, who remarked the following:

Following the departure of Aurelius Carleton, there left a void within Government. During that time, the Honourable Martynas Smetona, stepped into the role of Secretary of State of the Home Office at the Prime Minister's request. In a office that requires a lot of work and dedication, he served the Realm admirably, helping during this period of struggle. As we now see a light at the end of the tunnel, his help is acknowledged as one of the reasons why things are doing better now.

Departure Scandal

Wright resigned as a citizen and moved abroad, to a nation with which the Empire had hostile relations, in December 2022. Earlier, he was the subject of administrative measures. Queen Elizabeth the III consequently renounced Wright's membership of the Most Excellent Order of the Empire, stating the following:

Today, I come to you all on a solemn and serious matter. Earlier this week, Martynas Wright decided to resign his citizenship and leave the Empire of Great Britain. Not long after his departure, he became a Citizen of the United Kingdom (NSUK). A region which has permanently denied relations with us by the way of complete proscription. An damaging act which I remember deeply to this day. With this in mind, and his past behaviour which has seen him temporarily banned and suspended on the regional Discord several times, I hereby strip him of the honour he received on 27 October 2021, Member of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire. His actions make him no longer worthy of being among the members of that exalted order and the designation of being an Honoured Citizen.

Wright never returned as a citizen of the Empire of Great Britain.
